The "Glamour Girl" series

Based on personal experience. This series is about the Fashion Industry, and the women that inhabit it. I have painted these people with an abstract feel to represent the different types of back-stories that each one has. The dark background is meant to represent the hidden part of their personality, merging in with the person that we all see.

___________________

Tom-Girl, a play on the phrase Tom-Boy. She’s streetwise. An ex-prostitute who pulled herself out of the gutter and became a successful model. Life’s harsh lessons, learned the hard way, have shaped her into a woman who knows exactly who she is and what she wants.

Gone is the woman who once lived a life dictated by survival. In her place is a woman who knows her worth, who commands respect, and who unapologetically takes control of her own destiny. No longer a prostitute, she now stands as proof that you can achieve anything you want if you really want it.

This piece, in its vibrant chaos and bold lines, reflects the powerful transformation she’s undergone. A journey from broken dreams to brilliance.

She’s not the easy mark you think she is.

When children play, their imagination knows no bounds. Especially on a rainy day when there’s nothing else to do. Their creativity thrives. There's something magical about those moments. Their dreams are unrestrained and pure. Guided only by the heart's desire to explore and create. Wistful dreams fill the air, and every simple object holds the potential for adventure. There are no limits, no rules. Just endless possibilities.

But as we grow older we trade the wild, untamed imagination of our youth for the predictable patterns of adulthood. Social media, mobile phones, and other electronic devices begin doing the imagining for us. Offering endless distractions and feeding us pre-packaged concepts of what life should look like. Slowly, as the years pass, we lose touch with the unbridled joy of creating our own worlds. What was once a playground for the mind becomes a realm of passive consumption.

This painting reflects that loss.

The excited communication of Sparrows, happily chirping to welcome in a new day symbolizes the optimism that resides within the hearts of many. I have painted these Sparrows to represent the general population of our society and their homogeneous integration with each other. Despite Sparrows' individual differences, they all look the same. We too coexist. Bound by the shared human experience. We all try to be different, seeking to carve our unique path. Yet at our core, we too are all the same. Some of us are optimistic, others are pessimistic, and some are simply indifferent.

We all have the potential to greet each new day with hope. The Sparrows’ bright, joyful communication mirrors the unwavering optimism of those who look at life with a positive outlook. Always ready to face any adversity that might come their way.

The "Park Bench" series

This series is about the various sociological aspects of that generally unnoticed object. The Park Bench.

___________________

This painting captures the serene reflection found in the quiet solitude of parklands, botanic gardens, and similar spaces. Places where the mind can run free. These peaceful environments offer a rare moment of escape. Allowing us to disconnect from the relentless noise of our daily lives. The world outside these peaceful havens continues in its nonstop cacophony. But here, in the stillness, we are free. It is a moment for introspection, for recharging, and for simply existing without the constant pressure of the surrounding world.

The park bench, a humble fixture in these spaces, symbolizes this idea of pause. It’s an object we really never notice until we need it. We pass by, absorbed in our own thoughts and agendas. Until we are tired, and the need to rest becomes undeniable. The park bench becomes a temporary refuge, a spot where we can stop and take a breath before moving on to the next stage of our journey. Wherever that might be.

The "Twisted Mind" series

Each painting is its actual shape that you see.

___________________

Our subconscious mind twists itself around our conscious mind in a continuous dance where everything means nothing. Much like a metaphor for a metaphor. In this painting, I have intentionally painted the top of the box to face the opposite direction of the bottom, with no clear indication of the transition between the two. Symbolizing the constant tension and disconnect between these two layers of the mind.

At the center of the painting, the sphere hovers, representing our conscious mind. Like a round ball in a square box. Illogically trying to fit into a space it cannot fully occupy. It questions the nature of our grip on reality, prompting us to ask: Is it all really real what we see? How much of what we experience is shaped by our subconscious, and how much is authentic, out here? In our existence?

Where do we, each one of us, fit into all this? This painting challenges you to reflect on our own place in the tangled web of mind and perception. The dissonance between the box and the sphere, between the conscious and subconscious, asks us to consider how we make sense of the world.

The "Twisted Mind" series

Each painting is its actual shape that you see.

___________________

This canvas is designed to create an optical illusion to give the impression that it’s leaning back like a three-dimensional object. It plays with our perception of reality. Thus inviting the viewer to question the boundaries between form and space. The minimalist depiction of the Seagull above and its shadow below strips reality down to its barest essence. Reducing nature to its most fundamental shapes.

The Seagull, a familiar figure of the natural world, is rendered with precision yet abstraction, mirroring the way our view of the natural world is often shaped by contrast and perception.

This work is not just about what is seen but also about how we see it. The illusion of depth challenges the flatness of the canvas, much like how reality itself is shaped by our awareness.

2000 yrs
"2000 Years Later and Still the Same" by Karsten Stier – human communication unchanged, modernized within society.

2000 Years Later And Still The Same

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

137cm x 122cm

Human communication has remained fundamentally unchanged throughout history. Whether through digital screens, whispered conversations, or grand public speeches. The essence of our interactions is timeless. In this painting, a chaotic yet deeply structured tapestry of faces emerges, each figure locked in a moment of dialogue, secrecy, persuasion, or power play.

From the privileged elite to the outcast, from boardrooms to back alleys, the same dynamics persist—bargaining, gossiping, arguing, demanding, pleading. Some voices dominate with microphones and authority, while others whisper, scheme, or desperately attempt to be heard. The painting becomes a dense ecosystem of exchange, where the act of speaking is as important as the act of listening.

The exaggerated features and surrealist distortions reflect the fluidity of how we hear what we want, how expressions shift with intent. The figures blend into one another. Their boundaries blurred. Mirroring how influence and manipulation weave through our lives.

Despite advancements in technology and civilization, we remain bound to the ancient, primal modes of communication. Deals are struck in hushed tones. Laughter masks deception. And gestures can hold more weight than just words. Society, no matter how advanced, remains a stage for the same negotiations, rivalries, and desperate attempts for connection.

the outsiders
"The Outsiders" by Karsten Stier – modern media as the new cigarette, infiltrating daily life.

The Outsiders

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

120cm x 92cm

Once a simple pleasure, smoking has been pushed to the margins. Outside of buildings. Away from crowds. And thrust into the shadows of modern social etiquette. It is no longer just a habit. It has become a symbol of the rigid, rules-based world we live in. Where even personal vices must conform to external regulations. Yet, to the smoker, the act remains deeply intrinsic, almost ritualistic.

Lighting a cigarette is not just about nicotine. It is about the subconscious pull of repetition, comfort, and familiarity. It is a perfect example of the psychology of addiction.

But as smoking fades from the mainstream, society has replaced it with another, more insidious addiction. One that does not stain fingers or linger in the air but is just as intoxicating. Social media, electronic media, and the never-ending digital feed have seamlessly infiltrated our daily lives.

Becoming the new cigarette for the modern age.

retail
"Retail Therapy (Shop Till You Drop)" by Karsten Stier – a commentary on endless consumerism.

Retail Therapy (Shop Till You Drop)

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

120cm x 87cm

Shopping is no longer just an act of necessity. It has become a cycle of desire, dissatisfaction, and debt. The retail industry thrives on this. Pushing consumers to spend more, more, more! Every purchase promises fulfillment. Yet the moment the transaction is complete, the emptiness lingers. This is the essence of Retail Therapy. A fleeting high. A temporary escape. An illusion of control...

In this painting, I have endeavored to capture every facet of the shopping experience. The desirous window shopper. The shoplifter. The charities, symbolized in this painting by the hand with the coin-slot in it. The credit cards that make spending effortless. And the unending aisles filled with products designed for obsolescence. Where the packaging of a product has become more important than the product itself. And yet, the packaging is the first thing that ends up in the bin. Contributing to the boundless polluted landfills of our world.

I have painted the background minimalist to mirror the void that's left behind after the thrill of a purchase fades. Shopping is an illusion of abundance. Yet beneath it lies a stark emptiness.

We remain chained to perpetual debt. Trapped in a system that demands ceaseless consumption. We buy to feel successful. To feel included. To chase the dream of having more. Yet 'more' is never enough...

rush hour
"Rush Hour" by Karsten Stier – depicting the stress of deadlines and obligations.

Rush Hour

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

107cm x 76cm

Public transport, a supposed equalizer, becomes instead a microcosm of our disconnection. The working class crowds together. Their bodies merging into one another. Yet each remains locked in their own world. Some clutch newspapers, others stare blankly ahead, lost in thought or distraction. They are physically close, yet emotionally distant. Oblivious to everyone else around them. In portraying this, I deliberately blurred the boundaries between individuals. Illustrating how we have become faceless parts of a greater, impersonal system.

The tension of deadlines is palpable. Briefcases gripped tightly. Tired eyes scanning unseen clocks. The weight of expectation pressing down on slouched shoulders. And yet, what awaits at the other end of the journey? Another office, another obligation, another race against time that never truly ends.

Rush hour is not just a moment of congestion. It is a reflection of a society that moves unendingly but never pauses to consider its direction.

shark buiscuits
"Shark Biscuits" by Karsten Stier – symbolizing freedom from society's restraints.

Shark Biscuits

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

168cm x 89cm

In a world consumed by chaos, control, and conformity, the surf subculture exists as an act of quiet rebellion. Freedom from society’s restrictions and taboos. Shark Biscuits captures this moment of escape. Where the ocean offers sanctuary from the relentless pressures of modern life. Here, camaraderie replaces competition. Cohesion thrives in a selfish world. And friendships are forged in salt and sunlight.

At the heart of surfing lies an intimacy with nature. That's why I have painted the people, their belongings, and the nature around them merging into one another. To emphasize this unspoken understanding of oneness between the natural world around them, and each other.

Meanwhile, beyond the dunes, the world goes mad. Driven by greed, division, and disconnection. But here, among the waves, there is only the moment. Just the pull of the tide. The crash of the swell. And the sun sinking into a horizon untouched by human hands.

down the drain
"Down the Drain - Welcome to the 21st Century" by Karsten Stier – exploring the downfall of modern society.

Down The Drain - Welcome To The 21st Century

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

150cm x 160cm

In this work, I explore the downfall of society. How we, as a collective, have become so distracted by social media and other forms of useless entertainment that we fail to see what is really happening in this world. Climate change. Nano-plastics that remain with us for countless generations. Never-ending wars. You name it, it's all there!

The indifferent drug addict I painted in the bottom left corner serves as a stark representation of this apathy. He exists in a daze, numbed and detached. Much like the broader population, which has chosen complacency over confrontation. We are anesthetized, whether by substances, entertainment, or empty political promises.

As the world continues its mad descent into chaos. The so-called leaders of our society, the very ones we voted in to manage our affairs and to protect and care for our world, only offer hollow words and performative gestures. The very leaders who quite happily steal from the poor and give to the rich. A reversal of the 'Robin Hood' phenomenon. And treat us like just another resource - the 'human resource'.

The figures in this composition can be seen in frantic motion. People desperate to get away from World leaders who would sell their own Soul. Nay, sell Your soul, ‘fighting for your country’, fighting for ‘democracy’ ....

dinner at the salvo's
"Dinner at the Salvos" by Karsten Stier – shedding light on the reality of homelessness.

Dinner At The Salvo's

Oil Paint On Board

61cm x 34cm

Based on my personal experience of living on the streets for seven years.

We, in our affluent society, move through life with a carefully curated perspective of a wealthy society. Yet the unfortunate, those who live in poverty and homelessness, remain on the periphery of our vision. Present, yet unseen. Their struggles are softened by the distance we maintain. By the comfort of knowing that charities exist to help them.

Yet the truth is far more complex. Poverty and homelessness is an unavoidable consequence of a system that depends on winners and losers. It is a reflection of policies. Of broken support systems. Of priorities that place profit over people.

This painting is about those unfortunate people. Forcing us to see what we choose to ignore.

The hidden part of society that we pretend doesn’t exist.

wet dreams
"Wet Dreams" by Karsten Stier – exploring erotic dreams and subconscious desires.

Wet Dreams

Oil Paint On Stretched Canvas

61cm x 34cm

Erotic dreams and sexual fantasies exist in a world beyond our control. Unfolding in our subconscious mind where unfulfilled sexual desires take shape. Hidden from the public eye. Yet ever-present within us. Wet dreams becomes a physical manifestation of these suppressed urges. A nocturnal reminder that sexual desire does not adhere to societal restraints.

Within these dreams, there are no such boundaries. The mind roams freely. Constructing narratives that may defy logic, morality, or even personal identity. In these moments, we are both the observer and the participant. Tangled in a space where the rational and the primal collide.

This painting aims to expose this hidden realm. To give form to that which is often left unspoken. By translating erotic dreams into tangible expression, we confront the tension between what we crave and what we suppress.

in your wildest dreams
"In Your Wildest Dreams" by Karsten Stier – a glimpse into dreams and the subconscious mind.

In Your Wildest Dreams

Oil Paint On Stretched Canvas

61cm x 34cm

Dreams are a gateway to the subconscious. A place where thoughts, desires, hopes, and fears intertwine without logic or restraint. A place in our minds where anything goes. Here, where reality takes second place, time bends. Identities shift. And the impossible feels as natural as the air we breathe. It is a surrealist landscape. One that is shaped not by conscious will, but by the deeper subconscious, elusive workings of the mind.

I have painted the man's hand, desperately holding onto the surreal border of this painting. Unwilling to return back to reality. While the hand of an illusively unseen person kisses him goodbye. Until next time...

Much of what we suppress in our waking life. Our unspoken fears. Our hidden longings. The emotions we refuse to acknowledge. All of these, and then some, emerge in this psychological space. These fragments of the self remain hidden from us until we fall into our comatose sleep. Revealing themselves in symbols and sensations that defy rational interpretation.

This painting endeavors to capture that impression that dreams gives form to the intangible. It captures the tension between the real and the imagined. Offering a glimpse into the subconscious mind that we cannot access in our waking hours.

the love affair
"The Love Affair" by Karsten Stier – exploring vanity and self-love.

The Love Affair

Oil Paint On Stretched Canvas

107cm x 92cm

Vanity and self-love exist in a delicate balance. One a necessary affirmation of self-worth. The other a potential descent into obsession, like a trophy hunter collecting trophies. Preferably besotted lovers. Such as the man I have painted adorning the woman’s neck with a pink bow tied around his wrists.

I have painted the background in a surreal abstract background to mirror the subconscious desire for something more. Something beyond the skin-deep reflections being crafted.

Does vanity seek validation from within? Or is it dependent on the gaze of others to confirm its worth?

fallen angel
"Fallen Angel" by Karsten Stier – depicting prostitution, addiction, and broken dreams.

Fallen Angel

Color Pencil On High-Grade Art Paper

78cm x 92cm

Based on my personal experience of living on the streets for seven years.

A young girl who once had dreams of becoming a ballerina now moves to a different rhythm. One dictated by hunger. Desperation. By the cold asphalt beneath her feet. A prostitute.

She is a fallen angel. Her wings clipped by drug addiction. Scooped up by the underbelly of society that heartlessly swallows the lost and the broken like her. There is always one on every corner in every red-light centre of every town or city. Each with their own sad story of broken dreams and shattered hope.

Drugs took her first. Numbing the sting of failure. The ache of being forgotten. Then came the rest. The men. The deals. The never-ending cycle of survival that feels more like a slow death.

Living on the streets, she fades into the neon glow. Another shadow among many...

I have drawn this picture with her shadow and herself reversed, to reflect this tale of misfortune.

shodow of his former self
"Shadow of His Former Self" by Karsten Stier – exploring alcoholism, homelessness, and misfortune.

Shadow Of His Former Self

Color Pencil On High-Grade Art Paper

78cm x 92cm

Based on my personal experience of living on the streets for seven years.

Once, he had a good home. A loving family. A life that meant something. Now, he’s just another shadow on the street. Another unfortunate soul lost in the cracks of the city. A homeless alcoholic.

The man he used to be? Gone. Drowned in liquor, wasted away with every sip. His dreams? Broken. His hopes? Spent, just like his last cents on another cheap bottle. Alcohol is his only friend now. It numbs the cold. Dulls the hunger. And makes the past feel like a distant story that happened to someone else. He doesn’t care anymore. He’s got nothing left to prove.

Once, he had ambition. Now, there’s only one thing on his mind. His next drink. The only thing that matters. The only thing that keeps him going. Poverty wasn’t supposed to be his story. But here he is. Just another forgotten man in a city that moves too fast to care.

I have drawn this picture of the man and his shadow reversed, to reflect that outlook. A shadow of his former self.

caught in the act
"Caught in the Act" by Karsten Stier – exploring secret love affairs and hidden passions.

Caught In The Act

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

71cm x 92cm

What this woman is looking into is a real genuine mirror. So that when you, the viewer, looks at this painting you see your reflection in the mirror. Thus making you become part of the painting. She is looking at you. Your eyes meet.

Secret lovers move through the world like shadows Careful, cautious, always watching. No one knows. At least, not yet. The thrill is in the silence. The stolen moments. The lingering touches behind closed doors.

Keeping it secret becomes part of the covert excitement. The silent whispers. The late-night rendezvous. The rush of knowing you shouldn’t be doing it, but doing it anyway. Every glance in public is a test. And yet, the fear is what makes it intoxicating. Is it love? Or is it just the exhilaration of the forbidden? The lines blur, the emotions tangle. Living in a world where passion exists only in the shadows. The knowledge that at any moment everything could unravel.

Hence the title, 'Caught In The Act'

the new dress
"The New Dress" by Karsten Stier – symbolizing new love and fresh beginnings.

The New Dress

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

80cm x 183

I have painted this piece to show the that new-love is like the unknowable. Hence you, the viewer of this painting, only sees a hint of her reflection in the mirror. It's all new, unknown, hidden.

New love is hopeful, like a new dress. It drapes over the body. Unfamiliar yet full of promise. Stitched with the delicate threads of first-time love. There is a lightness in the way it settles. A hesitation in every movement. As if the fabric itself is waiting to be worn in. To become second nature.

This love is untouched by cynicism. Unwrinkled by past sorrow. It’s bright, fresh, and untested. But will it conform? Embrace the shape of reality? or will it pinch, constrict, leaving behind seams of longing?

First-time love asks no such questions. It simply is. It dances in possibility. Twirls in naïve delight. It believes in itself. It does not yet know of unraveling.

For now, new love remains just that. Hopeful. Like a new dress, waiting to be worn into a story only time will tell.....

sun lover
"Sun Lover" by Karsten Stier – exploring the freedom to be nude in the face of society's taboos.

Sun Lover

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

90cm x 147cm

This nude study is about freedom of expression and our conformity to social taboos. The yellow background represents the sunny daytime atmosphere of complete openness with oneself. The minimalistic blue line representing an outdoor beach scene is meant to capture the hidden sexual aspect of being in the nude.

In a world obsessed with appearances, nudity reveals the inner self. Free from artificial coverings or social expectations. Freed of material distractions, a person stands in their true, barest self revealed. Nothing to hide. Nothing to prove. It is a natural form of honesty. A silent but powerful declaration that the body is not something to be ashamed of, but something to be celebrated.

While many still view nudity through a lens of shame or impropriety, it remains a deeply personal act of self-acceptance. To be nude in nature is to reclaim one's own body. To let go of imposed limitations. And to experience life in its most organic, unrestricted form.

True freedom begins when nothing is left to conceal.

venus de bitch!
"Venus de Bitch!" by Karsten Stier – exploring women's empowerment in the modern age.

Venus De Bitch!

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

90cm x 147cm

This painting is a modern day version of 'The Venus De Milo' sculpture created by Alexandros of Antioch around 150-100 BCE, and 'The Birth of Venus' painting created by Sandro Botticelli between 1482 and 1485.

Women’s empowerment in a society dominated by men is not just about gaining equality. She is more than just a Venus to look at. More than an object of admiration or desire. She is a force. A leader. A voice that demands to be heard.

The empowered woman knows her worth and refuses to be diminished. She stands firm wherever she chooses to be.

In a world where men have long held dominance, she flips the script. Standing powerfully over cowering men as a symbol that power is no longer theirs alone to wield.

To be a strong woman today is to be assertive, unapologetic, and unstoppable. It is to walk boldly, speak confidently, and demand respect.

The world is shifting. And she is leading the way.

blue nude
"Blue Nude" by Karsten Stier – depicting the unfortunate realities of those who star in pornography.

Blue Nude

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

61cm x 92cm

Based on my personal experience of living on the streets for seven years.

I painted this creation in a semi-abstract way to emphasize the different aspects of the pornography scene, juxtaposed with the different personalities and unfortunate people who star in these shows.

Pornography is often sold as a fantasy, but behind the illusion lies a world of broken dreams and shattered lives. It is a hollow entertainment built on the suffering of unfortunate souls, trapped in an industry that exploits desperation.

Beneath the glamour of blue movies, there is a darker reality. One ruled over by manipulative figures who prey on vulnerability, and turn people into commodities.

Many in the industry are not there by true choice, but are forced to perform. Pressured by financial hardship, coercion, or even direct threats.

What some see as pleasure, is for many of these 'porn stars' a prison. And while the camera may stop rolling, the scars remain long after the final scene has played out.

143cm x 92cm

I painted this nude study in a semi-abstract way to emphasize the different aspects of a woman's shifting moods as she secretly maneuvers from lover to lover. Her face is turned away. You don't know who she is. Until you become her next lover...

A mystery wrapped in her own desire. Never staying too long. Never giving too much away. A woman never tells. Her secrets are her own. Whispered only to the night. She drifts through romance like a fleeting dream. Secretly moving from one lover to the next. Never bound. Never claimed.

Each lover thinks they are the only one in her life. Unaware of the others who came before. Or those who will come after.

Yet, beneath there is a deeper longing. She is searching for true love. Hoping that one day, someone will make her stay.

Until then, she moves like a shadow between lovers.

burning desire #1
"Burning Desire #1" by Karsten Stier – exploring women's sexual desires throughout the day.

Burning Desire #1

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

65cm x 91cm

I painted this nude as part of a matching set of two. One for the day. Which is normally hidden from the the public gaze. The other for the night. Where anything goes. Unrestrained. It is done in a minimalist way to focus purely on the flames of a woman's desire. This is Number 1 of that set. The day...

I have painted the blue daylight background to represent the carnal desires of a woman. Where social taboos dictate what can be revealed and what must remain hidden. In the daylight, she presents an image of restraint. Her self-consciousness ensuring that her secret yearnings for sexual satisfaction remain beneath the surface.

Yet, within her, the subconscious mind stirs. Whispering repressed thoughts that slip through in fleeting moments. A Freudian slip.

Society has long demanded that a woman’s sexual desires be kept hidden from view in the daytime. Relegated to the private spaces of the night, or the deep corners of her mind. Of imposed decorum.

But her desires flicker in subtle movements. The way she lingers on certain words. The restless shifting of her hands…

I have painted the flaming, red, background to represent the carnal desires of a woman at night. Where anything goes. Fully unrestrained from the social taboos that dictate what can be revealed and what must remain hidden.

In this night time space, all her sexual fantasies are played out in reality. Not merely imagined but fully realized. Shaped exactly the way she wants. There is no pretense. No restraint. Only the raw expression of pleasure. Unburdened by inhibition.

Her body responds instinctively. Each movement an extension of her craving. Leading to the inevitable climax, the fulfillment of achieving an orgasm in its purest, most undiluted form. She is neither ashamed nor hesitant. She embraces the intensity. Riding the waves of pleasure as they crash over her.

Here, in the night, she is entirely herself. There is no need to conceal or minimize her hunger. Her pleasure is not a passive, repressed, thing but a fire that consumes and creates her in equal measure.

In this moment, she reclaims her body. There is nothing hidden. Nothing denied….

Cycling Effect
"Cycling Effect" by Karsten Stier – exploring exercise, health, confidence, and wellbeing.

Cycling Effect

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

150cm x 94cm

This painting is created in a minimalist abstract way to focus purely on the energy emanating from three bicyclists as they power their way down the road.

Like any exercise, even walking, the energy elicited from using a mechanical device, like a bicycle, is a powerful way to improve overall health and wellbeing. Contributing to both physical and mental health.

Beyond the physical benefits of exercise, such as cycling, it plays a role in generating confidence. Setting goals. Pushing through challenges. All contributing to a greater sense of accomplishment. This, in turn, enhances self-esteem and motivation to maintain an active routine.

Incorporating exercise into daily life, whether through bicycling or other activities, is a key to a healthier future. The combination of movement, fresh air, and mindfulness creates a positive impact that extends far beyond the ride itself.

laughter in the wind
"The Sound of Childhood Laughter on a Windy Day" by Karsten Stier – capturing the innocence of childhood.

The Sound Of Childhood Laughter On A Windy Day

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

31cm x 31cm

This painting is created in a pointillism minimalist way to focus purely on the laughter of children outdoors as they play freely, innocently, in amongst the wind and the natural world.

The innocence of childhood is a time of pure joy. Where the world feels vast and full of endless possibilities. Children find happiness in the simplest things. Running barefoot through the grass, climbing trees, or chasing butterflies. They are naturally at one with nature. Embracing the outdoors as their playground. Unbothered by time or responsibility.

Unlike adults, children have the freedom to play how they want. This is something that slowly fades away as we grow older. Society places limitations us. Telling us how to behave. What is acceptable, and what is not.

But children remain unrestrained from societal rules. Allowing them to express themselves fully, without hesitation. It is a time where life is lived effortlessly. In harmony with the world. Untouched by the weight of adulthood.

one last drag
"One Last Drag Before I Quit (Again)" by Karsten Stier – exploring cigarette addiction and the struggle to quit.

One Last Drag Before I Quit (Again)

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

122cm x 122cm

This painting is about quitting cigarettes and it's insidiously addictive qualities. It is an addiction that's Way worse than heroin addiction. Just not as expensive. It is the most useless recreational drug of all. It doesn't even get you 'stoned', which is the primary purpose of using recreational drugs. All it gives you is a very mild cheap 'high' to keep you going until the next 'hit' - another cigarette.

Unlike other 'Drugs Of Addiction' with strict regulations, cigarettes are freely sold in any supermarket, milk-bars, and service stations, etc. Making access incredibly easy and fueling the addiction.

They are the Only recreational drug that gives you cancer. Millions of people around the world die from it every day. A fact that should make them unthinkable.

...Until you flick on the cigarette-lighter and exhale a satisfying plume of smoke.

You've reached the end of your cigarette. This is the last drag. Next time, for sure! Yeah, right….

no!! it's mine!
"No!! It's Mine!" by Karsten Stier – depicting childhood rivalry evolving into adult warfare, man against man.

No!! It's Mine!

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

107cm x 92cm

I have painted these children merging into each other to show that people are all the same. Yet each one of us is different

Childhood rivalry is often seen as harmless. Children competing over toys. Arguing over games. Or forming small groups against one another.

Yet, what begins as simple disagreements in childhood can grow into something far more destructive in adulthood. The same instincts that drive children to fight amongst themselves evolve into deeper divisions. Shaping ideologies, nations, and warfare. What started off as playful competition turns into man against man.

The echoes of childhood conflicts can be seen in the way adults engage with one another. Just as children draw imaginary lines between 'us' and 'them', adults do the same on a grander scale. Waging wars over power, resources, and beliefs.

Meanwhile, just as some children remain indifferent to their peers’ disputes, many adults go about their lives, blissfully unaware of the forces shaping their world.

Indifference, whether in childhood or adulthood, allows rivalries to escalate unchecked. Proving that human nature, from childhood to adulthood, remains locked in the same endless cycle of conflict and division.

after ther party
"After the Party" by Karsten Stier – capturing the wistful longing after the fun ends, as the party's over.

After The Party

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

92cm x 51cm

I have painted these bottles merging into each other as a play on reality once the party is over, with the  wine glass almost empty - Still half full?  The artwork itself is meant to float over the boarder of the the composition. Hence the shadow I painted beneath to emphasize this point of the end of a party and, reluctantly, back to the real world.

A party is alive with joy and unselfconsciousness. Where laughter flows freely. And time dissolves in the warmth of shared moments. In this space, the openness of communication thrives. Words spill without hesitation, weaving connections that feel effortless and true.

Yet, as the night wanes, a quiet ache lingers. The unwillingness of a party ending. The unspoken wish to hold onto what is already slipping away.

And when silence settles, only echoes remain. The empty remnants of a joy gone by, scattered like confetti. A reminder that even the most vibrant moments must fade….

lark #1
"Lark #2" by Karsten Stier – exploring perception and the impact of first impressions.

Lark #2

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

25cm x 20cm

I have painted this creation as part of a matching set of two. The pointillist background is meant to portray the shifting light of the early dawn. The Lark I have portrayed, is composed primarily of smooth curves, and two colors. My intention here is to capture the moment of pure movement when you observe the fluidity of the bird in motion in that first instance of time. Before you fully look at it properly and see it for what it really is.

This is how we observe most things in life, in our reality. At first a fleeting glimpse of its appearance. And then, if we choose to do so, pay full attention to that observation.

Is This what first impressions are all about?

peacock on parade
"Finches on Parade" by Karsten Stier – exploring the desire to be admired through fashion and appearance.

Finches On Parade

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

152cm x 51cm

Like finches on parade, we parade ourselves before the world. Each seeking to be looked at. To be admired. In our own finery and fashions, we display who we are. Or perhaps who we wish to be.

Society thrives on this ritual. An unspoken dance of presentation and perception. In public, we step forward. Curating our image. Shaping how we are seen. We like to be liked. To feel accepted within the culture we inhabit.

But beneath the colors and fabrics, beyond the carefully chosen details, do we find authenticity? Or is this endless display simply the nature of being human?

bird songs
"Bird Songs" by Karsten Stier – exploring public communication and the endless chatter in society.

Bird Songs

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

122cm x 91cm

I have painted these various birds in a semi-abstract way to emulate their movements, as seen in that quick moment as they move about, to represent people of all different cultures and personalities as they go about their business in a crowded environment.

In society, people chatter comfortably in a crowded atmosphere, just like birds chattering playfully amongst themselves. Voices overlap. Weaving a constant rhythm of speech. A melody of thoughts, opinions, and fleeting remarks. Each has something to say, whether people are listening or not. Just like birds.

People talk just to be heard. Simply because expression is an instinct. A natural part of life. Words flit between minds, landing briefly before taking flight again. And whether anyone pauses to truly listen or not, the chatter continues.

A sign of life, of connection, of the endless movement of society. A familiar, constant presence.

rendezvous
"Rendezvous" by Karsten Stier – capturing the moments of meetings between lovers and friends.

Rendezvous

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

122cm x 92cm

I have painted these birds in a semi-abstract way to represent people as seen in that fleeting moment of meeting together. A quick rendezvous before moving on. Whether it be lovers, friends, a meeting...

In society, a rendezvous is more than just a meeting together. It is a moment where lives intersect, however briefly. These fleeting moments that passes shapes the rhythm of daily existence. People gather together, speak, part ways, or move on together.

Private communication unfolds in hushed tones or knowing glances. A language understood beyond words.

Yet, this ritual is not bound by place or identity. All cultures and walks of life do these same things. Across the globe people meet, exchange thoughts, and continue on their way. Leaving behind echoes of their conversations, laughter, and unspoken emotions.

the seagull's adventure
"The Adventures of a Seagull" by Karsten Stier – searching for new adventures and fresh outlooks.

The Adventures Of A Seagull

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

130cm x 92cm

Like a Seagull wandering over the vast expanses of a shoreline, some people seek new adventure. Drifting beyond the familiar in search of something meaningful. The endless horizon calls to them, just as the bird glides effortlessly above the water. Scanning the world below. There is a quiet longing in the journey. A pull toward the unknown. Where each gust of wind offers a new direction. A new possibility.

Some move with purpose. Others simply follow where the currents take them, never quite certain what they will find.

Like the Seagull in this painting spreading its wings, these seekers embrace the open unknown. Trusting in the motion. In the act of searching itself. The shoreline is vast. The sky even more so. And somewhere beyond what is seen, beyond what is known, something awaits. A new adventure…

monarch
"Monarch" by Karsten Stier – exploring the symbolism of monarch butterflies.

Monarch

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

25cm x 20cm

One of a matching pair of butterfly paintings, and the symbolism that various cultures of our world attribute them to.

Like the Monarch Butterfly drifting quietly across vast distances, some souls embark on journeys of transformation. Carried by unseen forces toward something unknown. Their delicate wings bridging the worlds of the living and the dead. In some cultures they symbolize endurance, change, and the quiet resilience of migration. Travelers on paths both physical and spiritual.

Their flight is not random but instinctive. Drawn to a destination written into their very being.

Whether seen as a symbol of guidance, remembrance, or personal growth, the Monarch’s journey mirrors our own. Fleeting, fragile, yet full of purpose. It soars with quiet determination. Reminding us that transformation is inevitable.

lapis
"Lapis" by Karsten Stier – exploring the symbolism of the Lapis Lazuli butterfly.

Lapis

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

25cm x 20cm

One of a matching pair of butterfly paintings, and the symbolism that various cultures of our world attribute them to.

Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, the Lapis Lazuli Butterfly symbolizes transformation, wisdom, and the soul’s journey toward enlightenment. Its deep blue wings carry the weight of truth and divine insight. For millenia the gemstone Lapis Lazuli was sacred. A stone of immortality and celestial wisdom. Qualities reflected in the butterfly’s fleeting yet profound existence.

A Lapis Lazuli Butterfly, then, is more than a creature of delicate beauty. It is a messenger of transformation. A symbol of the endless cycle of renewal, carrying with it the wisdom of ages as it drifts through the air. Weightless, yet eternal in meaning.

windbreak
"Wind Break" by Karsten Stier – exploring cultural belief differences and the impact on warfare.

Wind Break

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

96cm x 94cm

Like a line of trees creating a Wind Break, merging into each other to stop the wind from flowing from one paddock through to the next. Societies exist on more or less the same level. Each community is aware of the other's presence. Yet there is a barrier between them. A wall of cultural differences.

I have painted this creation in a minimalist semi-abstract way to reflect this emptiness of communication. The desolately dry fields are meant to emulate this inability to accept each other's societal beliefs. The trees in this painting, merging into each other, is meant to symbolize the fact that despite those differences there is an element of like-minded thoughts amongst our various cultures and societies. Only interpreted in their own way.

Each culture, society, belief, thinks they are right and the other is wrong - like a wind-break creating a barrier. Preventing everyone from becoming one homogenous society where we can all live in 'peace and harmony' together.

back country
"Back Country" by Karsten Stier – exploring our narrow, simplistic view of reality.

Back Country

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

168cm x 92cm

This painting is about our awareness of reality and our limited view of the things surrounding us. I have painted this line of trees on a narrow strip of hillside in it's barest minimalist form to represent the fact that we only see things in the way we subconsciously prefer. Not as they really are, but as we want to see them. Bereft of any real detail.

Reality is shaped by our perspectives and preferences. Like tunnel vision, our view is often limited. Filtering out aspects of the world around us that don’t align with what we expect or wish to see. Yet, to be consciously aware means to challenge these limitations. To step beyond the confines of selective perception.

The big picture exists beyond our immediate focus. Revealing layers of truth and complexity. Only by expanding our awareness can we embrace the full picture in all its detail. One that acknowledges not just our own reality, but the intricate and interconnected nature of existence itself.

sailing
"Sailing" by Karsten Stier – questioning the existence of reality.

Sailing

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

122cm x 92cm

This painting is composed of hard straight lines and curves in a semi-abstract fashion to describe the rigidity of our mind-set as dictated by our subconscious mind. Our consciousness tries to navigate through the turbulence of reality. Sailing through it in a vertiginous way.

What is reality really about? What does it all mean? Are we really here? Or is existence just a projection of our subconscious thoughts? We move through life assuming the world around us is solid, tangible. But is it?

If our perceptions are shaped by the mind, does that make reality an illusion? Or does it simply mean consciousness is the foundation of everything we know ‘out here’? Perhaps what we see, feel, and experience is merely a construct. A carefully woven narrative of thought.

If so, where does reality end and the mind begin? Or are they one and the same?

shoreline in 'd' minor
"Shoreline in 'D' Minor" by Karsten Stier – depicting a contented mind, at one with the world.

Shoreline In 'D' Minor

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

139cm x 92cm

This painting is composed in a semi-abstract fashion to portray the peaceful serenity of when our mind is in a state of pure contentment. Like the movements of the water on a shoreline, rippling into each other. The fish swimming above represents our lazy serenity as we waft around in complacent satisfaction. The 'D' minor' part of its title is all about the musical resonance of this state of mind.

To be at peace with the world and at peace with oneself is a rare yet deeply fulfilling state. A moment to be savored. It is where the conscious and subconscious play together in harmony. Free from conflict.

Flowing as one. This balance creates a state of well-being treasured by everyone. Yet often elusive in the rush of daily life.

When achieved, even briefly, it offers clarity. A quiet joy that needs no explanation. It is a sense of belonging. Of simply being.

In perfect unity with existence.

"Where's the Action" by Karsten Stier – exploring our constant search for entertainment.

Where's The Action?

Oil Paint On Stretch Canvas

63cm x 63cm

Our constant search for action, entertainment, thrills, and partying is driven by a desire for happiness. A longing for good times that lift us beyond the routine of daily life.

In a world filled with obligations, we crave moments of excitement. A diversion from our daily grind.

These experiences provide an escape. A chance to feel alive. Free from the weight of responsibilities. Yet, is this pursuit of pleasure a true path to fulfillment? Or is it just a fleeting distraction?

Who cares! Let’s Party!

Nude In A Pool

The "Twisted Mind" series

Each painting is its actual shape that you see.

___________________

I have constructed this canvas to give the optical illusion of the canvas leaning back, to give it a '3 D' appearance. Making the woman in this piece seem more tangible. More real.

The nude woman emanating from the pool symbolizes the act of rising from her own self-consciousness. Emerging from the depths of the mind into existence. Her form, delicate yet raw, embodies the fragility of being human. Where vulnerability and strength coexist. As she ascends from the pool in the canvas, reality is exposed. Unveiled of any pretense. Revealing the delicate balance between the seen and the unseen.

The illusion is meant to challenge the viewer. What is truly real? Is our perception merely a reflection of the mind’s own depths?

___________________

I have constructed this canvas in a triangular shape to match sharp semi-abstract shapes within this painting. With the curves of the nude woman merging into those sharp edges and this three-sided piece. Thus making the shape of this canvas a part of the artwork itself.

An optical illusion. Revealing the many facets of a woman. Each representing a different personality. Woven together yet distinct. These facets are not smooth. They are jagged. With jarring sharp corners. Reflecting the complexity and contradictions inherent in being a woman.

Each angle tells a different story. Each side revealing a new layer of strength, vulnerability, resilience, and grace. A tapestry of experiences, emotions, and identities.

Never one-dimensional. Always evolving. Constantly shifting between contrasting forces that define her.

come on in
"Come On In" by Karsten Stier – exploring open communication on beaches in a hurried society.

Come On In

Oil Paint on Stretched Canvas

116cm x 86cm

The beach is one of the few places where society momentarily lets go of its burdens. Here, amidst the rhythmic crash of waves and the warmth of the sun, people gather. Not out of obligation, but out of a shared desire to unwind, connect, and momentarily escape the pressures of everyday life. It is a space where human interaction flourishes, blending seamlessly with the natural beauty that surrounds it.

In this scene, the sun-burnt man in the foreground enthusiastically gestures to his friends. Urging them to join him in the water. His carefree motion captures the spirit of the beach. An unspoken invitation to embrace the present moment. Nearby, a father hands an ice cream to his child, a small but meaningful act of joy and generosity.

This painting is meant to capture the energy of a place where society pulses with life, offering a brief but powerful respite from the harsh realities beyond the shore. It is a reminder that, even in the busiest of spaces, there is always room for connection, joy, and a moment to just be.
